Improving Fiber Infrastructure for a Food Processing Facility

Food Processing | Midland, Texas

Talk With Our Team

A large food processing facility needed a better way to move data between areas of the same plant. DSI’s electrical team designed and installed a fiber pathway reaching multiple MCCs and truck loading stations, working around a building layout that made conduit routing anything but straightforward.

The work was completed efficiently, the customer was satisfied, and the relationship has continued into conversations about future projects.

The Client Challenge

The facility needed a reliable way to improve communication between operational areas across the plant. The existing infrastructure made it hard to get data quickly from different MCCs and truck loading stations, which limited visibility into things like product measurement and truck loading activity.

The building itself complicated the job. Conduit had to run along walls that were not straight and were obstructed by existing buildings, equipment, and previously installed systems.

Our Approach

DSI’s electrical team led the project, focused on a fiber pathway practical enough to navigate the facility’s layout. Careful planning let the crew route conduit efficiently despite the obstacles, using offsets and directional changes to work around space constraints.

The team stayed close to the customer throughout, providing regular updates and inviting them to walk the site several times a week. That kept everyone aligned and gave the customer confidence from start to finish.

The Solution

DSI installed a fiber pathway connecting multiple MCCs and truck loading stations throughout the plant. The routing had to navigate around existing infrastructure while keeping the system reliable and accessible for future service.

The finished pathway enables communication between areas of the facility that could not easily share data before, supporting real-time visibility into plant operations.

Results and Impact

Completed Ahead of Expectations

The project was finished efficiently and ahead of what the customer expected.

Solved the Actual Problem

The delivered solution fully addressed the operational challenge rather than working around it.

Stronger Customer Relationship

Execution on this project led directly to continued conversations about future work.

Better Data Access Plant Wide

Communication and data access improved across multiple areas of the facility.

Conduit and cable routed around existing plant equipment

The Value Delivered

  • Monitor product measurements more efficiently
  • Track truck loading and scale data in real time
  • Improve coordination between areas of the operation

Better fiber infrastructure gave the plant faster, more reliable communication between key operational points, streamlining operations and leaving a scalable foundation for future improvements.
